SEDGEBROOKXChicago, Illinois
Formerly a flat 90 acre soybean field, Sedgebrook includes a 21 acre lake addressing critical storm-water management issues for the site and the adjacent river. Water flows through the site in a series of ponds in heavily landscaped courtyards. Fountains and pavilions are featured at the campus entrance.
HENRY FORD VILLAGEXDearborn, Michigan
Henry Ford Village, located on the original farm where Henry Ford was born, is now a thriving senior community featuring ponds, fountains, and an extensive walkway system. The courtyards and pocket parks feature a diverse plant palette including groves of unusual tree, shrub and perennial species.
HICKORY CHASEXColumbus, Ohio
The formerly flat Hickory Chase site has been contoured and sculpted to create small lake habitats, part of the overall storm water management for the property. A preserved seven acre hardwood forest at the heart of the campus provides not only beautiful parkland for residents, but important native habitat for songbirds.
WINDSOR RUNXCharlotte, North Carolina
With over sixty feet in vertical grade across the site, Windsor Run is intimately connected to its native North Carolina landscape. Formerly open grazing land, the restoration plan includes new groves of native trees, wildflower meadows and wetlands planted with shallow and deepwater marsh species.
LAUREL CHASEXAtlanta, Georgia
Laurel Chase capitalizes on the site’s topography while preserving natural areas which dominate the major resident courtyards. The pocket parks scattered among the buildings, with an extensive pedestrian walk system, are themed to be reminiscent of the Georgia foothill landscapes of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
BRIDGEWATERXBrownstown, Michigan
Working in collaboration with Grissim-Metz-Andriese, KWLA developed a park master plan for Bridgewater that includes a full range of amenities such as tournament level bocce ball courts, swimming, tennis, pavilions, overlooks, lakes, and ponds.
MARYWOODXLivonia, Michigan
The Marywood landscape currently requires extensive lawn maintenance. In response, KWLA and Deak Planning + Design have designed a more sustainable landscape, converting many acres to no-mow native meadows, stands of native drought resistant plants, and have specified organic fertilizers and pesticides.
